After seventeen consecutive weeks with The Humanitarian Relief Appeal (HRA), there were some emotional experiences and events that left everybody with personal fulfilment. Each person, each story encourages us to keep carrying out this wonderful initiative week after week, striving to aid as many families as possible.
A young woman, who came to us to requesting a bag of groceries and ended up asking for help due to domestic violence was directed to another organization where she was placed along with her children under a protection program against domestic violence. Hundreds of people have reached out to us every day, asking for the opportunity to be a part of the HRA program.
There are many challenges that we must overcome like, the constant fear of being infected with COVID-19 due to high exposure and being in contact with so many people, holding weekly meetings to discuss, with the committee, the cases of aspiring beneficiaries, designing different methods to systematize the entire selection, delivery and distribution process. The weight of bearing the responsibility of deciding who is eligible and who is not; who can wait and who is priority; which cases are true and which are not.
We have also witnessed a fight between a couple from the program, that led to an attempted assault with a knife in front of the community center. Fortunately, the National Guard intervened, and it became the second case that we sent to the protection program against domestic violence, this time a 14-year-old girl and her one-month-old daughter. Despite all of this, there is great satisfaction when receiving messages from so many people expressing their gratitude and explaining how they are able to feed their families with the help from the HRA program.

Hello, I would like to thank you infinitely for all your support. I know that there are many people behind all this, and you are the ones who stand up and make all of this possible. From the bottom of my heart, and on behalf of my husband and my children, we would like to thank you and may God continue to bless you with these resources and make them reach whoever is in need. I know that it is very difficult for everyone, and that unfortunately it is sometimes impossible to provide for everyone, thank God they have supported me with these weekly groceries, which has aided us in a way you couldn’t imagine. If only they could read what my heart feels every Friday when I pick them up, I’m sure you would all smile and cry the way I do. Blessings to all the people who are behind this.
