In 2018 I gave a presentation on continuous professional development for English teachers at BBELT, the annual conference organized by the British Council in Mexico City. A couple of months later, I received a phone call from Peace Punta de Mita to ask me to deliver teacher training on the same topic to a group of teachers. I had no idea what this was about, but knowing the needs of teacher training in Mexico, I eagerly accepted the invitation.
Since the majority of donors to PEACE prefer to make their donations towards the end of the year, PEACE directors concentrate their main fundraising efforts in November and December. Now with only 6 weeks remaining for this year’s campaign, the PEACE directors are actively contacting potential donors with the goal to raise over US$400,000 to cover estimated operating costs of 8 million pesos.
With the continuous upraising of social networks, communication has become a great asset for everyone. So spreading the word and getting to show people what can be achieved is an amazing opportunity. With support from Desarrollo Punta de Mita, in collaboration with Peace and local members, Punta Mita invested in a marketing campaign that would emphasize the positive contributions made by non-profits in light of the town’s challenges. The project was set in motion and the results were beyond amazement.
