Thanksgiving is not a tradition typically celebrated in Mexico, but at PEACE Punta de Mita, gratitude is at the heart of everything we do — and this year, we wanted our students to experience the spirit of this celebration in a way that felt meaningful, joyful, and true to our community.
Thanks to an idea from our Executive Director, José Antonio Salgado, the children, teens, and adults from our educational programs — Campeones Jr. (elementary), Campeones (middle school), Prepanet (high school), and Click On and Keep Going (adult education) — gathered for a special Thanksgiving experience “a la mexicana,” sharing warm rotisserie chicken served with potatoes cooked in its juices, coleslaw, and, of course, the traditional turkey.
Before the meal, our teachers and team offered a brief explanation of the origins of Thanksgiving, highlighting its message of appreciation, reflection, and unity — values that transcend borders and cultures.
What followed was a simple but heartfelt moment: students and staff sharing food, conversations, laughter, and words of gratitude — for the opportunities they have, the people who guide them, and the community that supports their growth every day. Some spoke about what they have learned this year, others about their families, and many expressed appreciation for being part of PEACE, where they feel supported, encouraged, and seen.
For us, this gathering was more than a celebration. It was a reminder of the power of cultural exchange in a destination as diverse as Punta de Mita. It showed our students that gratitude can be expressed in many ways — through traditions old and new, shared meals, and the simple act of being together.
As we reflect on this season of thanks, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to everyone who makes our mission possible. Your generosity strengthens our programs, your trust fuels our work, and your belief in our students helps shape their futures.
From all of us at PEACE Punta de Mita, thank you for being part of this community of learning, opportunity, and heart.
