The purpose of this paper is to provide Talking Points for the formation of a task force to undertake the planning, construction, and sustainment of the school campus project beginning with Phase I in 4Q21. The project will be cosponsored by PEACE Punta de Mita (PPM) and Fundación DINE Punta Mita (FDPM). In general, PEACE will be responsible for funding, design, permitting, negotiating with Nayarit Department of Education, and construction. FDPM will donate the land and be responsible (with PPM) for the ongoing sustainment funding by promoting “The School Campus” in most annual events held in the resort and by attracting International and National annual sponsors. Talking Points for a functional organization are as stated below with the intent of holding the first ZOOM conference by February 19, 2021.
Project Management
Anaelena Giron, former PEACE Education Manager, is appointed as Project Manager. She will be responsible for the overall coordination, assuring that all elements and timetables are well defined and maintained. Department of Education agreement at the state and possibly the federal level will be assisted by her direct supervisor, Ali Elias, PPM Executive Director. Finance and accounting will become separate department within PPM.
Board Oversight
Frank Hutto will represent the PEACE Board and use his experience in construction management as an advisor to various issues presented by the task force. Frank will work closely with Anaelena and Juan Pablo Stone.
Fund Raising
Beginning in Fall 2019, Peter Newton and Ron Budacz held one on one meetings with several high-net-worth individuals inside of Punta Mita to assess the donor appetite for funding a project of the magnitude. They were able to define soft commitments circa US$1,250,000 (with a minimum donation of US$100,000 each) based on a guesstimate of US$2 million to complete the project. These soft pledges and more need to turn into hard donations, based upon real costs.
Sustainment Funding and Promotion - Carl Emberson and Ron Budacz
Community Support - Diego Martínez
Diego is uniquely qualified to lead the continued groundswell of support. He not only is a local business entrepreneur, but also lives with his wife and child in Corral del Risco, and as such has a vested interest in providing adequate school infrastructure in the community. He will lead people at all levels to assure bottoms-up commitment is well defined and communicated to the masses. In this capacity, Diego will become the school board head.
Design, Build, and Construction Oversight - JP Stone
JP will use his vast knowledge and experience in construction to define building, classroom, and campus specifications. The recent Higuera Blanca High School construction may or may not represent the standard for all campus buildings. He will solicit bids from area contractors with the intent of providing employment opportunities to townspeople where possible and will oversee see construction.
